Hamantashen
Queen Eshter's Biscuits

Hamantashen

Hamantashen are triangular biscuits, filled with jam.



1 egg (no blood!), beaten
250-300 g. flour
125 g. sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
150 g. butter
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon amaretto

Mix butter and sugar until soft and smooth. Add egg, milk,and amaretto. Stir until creamy. Stir in flour and baking powder. Leave dough in the fridge for at least 3 hours.
Roll out dough and use a glass to cut out circular shapes. Fill circles with a small spoonful of jam. Fold up 3 sides of the circle to form a triangle. Pinch edges to seal. Place hamantashen on greased baking tray. Bake at 190 °C (375 F) for 12-15 minutes or until light golden.

Queen Eshter's Biscuits

Easy and tasty. A great children's project!

½ cup sugar
½ cup soft butter
1 egg, (no blood!), beaten
1 spoonful rose-water (or orange-blossom-water)
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon baking-powder
¼ cup poppy seed

Mix sugar and butter until smooth, add egg and rose-water. Stir in flour and baking powder. Add poppy seed, and knead to make a stiff dough. Leave dough in the fridge for a few hours. Roll out dough to about ½ inch thick. Cut out biscuits with biscuit-cutter. Preheat oven to 180°C (350 F). Place biscuits on greased baking tray and bake for about 10 - 15 minutes until light golden.
